Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

What is WHMIS?
Answer: WHMIS stands for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. WHMIS is Canadian federal and provincial legislation that was designated to ensure the safety of employers and employees while at the workplace. WHMIS was created in response to the Canadian Workers' right to know about the safety and health hazards associated with materials or chemicals used at work. The main components of WHMIS are hazards identification and product classification, through labeling, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and worker training and education.
 
Who needs WHMIS Training?
Answer: WHMIS training is required for employees working with or in proximity to hazardous materials or controlled products at the workplace. Workplace Safety Group’s WHMIS training is designed toonline WHMIS certification meet both “introductory” and recommended “annual refresher training” requirements
 
How often do I need WHMIS training?
Answer: The Occupational Health & Safety Act requires that WHMIS training be reviewed on an annual basis, or more often as required (e.g. when changes in work conditions or hazard information changes become available).
