 Workplace Sexual Harassment

Is your organization prepared to do something about workplace sexual harassment? A recent CareerBuilder Survey finds that 72% of workers who experience sexual harassment at work do not report it.

Do employers need to concern themselves with this issue?

Sexual harassment and abuse have received unprecedented attention following bombshell allegations from within the circles of the high and mighty. The worldwide social media campaign to confront the issue under the hashtag “MeToo” continues on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms. Employers should be worried as there is certain to be more fallout from this unstoppable movement.

Employees, and not only women but men too, have been empowered and are encouraged to finally speak up about inappropriate innuendo and behaviour in the workplace. Bill 132, Sexual Violence and Harassment Action Plan Act (Supporting Survivors and Challenging Sexual Violence and Harassment) was enacted in 2016.

Do you know the steps you need to take if an employee comes to you with a sexual harassment claim? Not only are employers required to have a written policy in place but, they must also have written procedures to address any allegations of inappropriate conduct that outline the process of reporting and responding to an accusation of misconduct.
